App Store screenshot sizes in 2026

App Store Connect has a lot of screenshot slots, but most apps only need one or two of them. Here is every size Apple accepts, which ones are required, and what App Store Connect does when you leave a slot empty.

Published 2 November 2026. Store rules checked against Apple's and Google's pages on 1 November 2026.

The short version

  • For an iPhone app, start with iPhone with Dynamic Island, medium (6.1" / 6.3"). Required for iPhone apps. This is the size App Store Connect asks for first, not 6.9". Accepted portrait sizes are 1179 × 2556, 1206 × 2622.
  • If your app also runs on iPad, add iPad 13" at 2064 × 2752, 2048 × 2732 portrait. Required if your app runs on iPad.
  • Each device size takes 1 to 10 screenshots, as PNG or JPEG, with no alpha channel or transparency.
  • iPhone Duo screenshots are optional for now. Optional today. Required from April 2027 for apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. Uploading Duo screenshots adds an 'optimized for iPhone Duo' badge.

Everything else is either optional, because App Store Connect scales a larger size down for you, or only needed when you ship on that platform (Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro).

File rules that apply to every slot

Apple accepts PNG and JPEG files. Images can't include alpha channels or transparency, so a PNG exported with a transparent background will be refused even if it looks fine on screen. You can upload up to 10 screenshots per device size. The pixel dimensions need to match one of the accepted sizes for that slot, listed in the tables below.

If you are not sure a file is right, drop it into the free screenshot validator. It checks the size, the alpha channel and the format against the same data this page uses.

iPhone screenshot sizes

Apple groups iPhones by display. The slot most people need is iPhone with Dynamic Island, medium (6.1" / 6.3"), used by devices such as iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17, iPhone 16 Pro. The large Dynamic Island slot covers iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro Max and others. Each slot accepts a few exact sizes, in portrait or landscape.

iPhone with Home button, 3.5"640 × 920, 640 × 960960 × 600, 960 × 640Optional

Two of the rows above work as a pair. iPhone with Face ID, large (6.5") is marked as required only in one case: required if your app runs on iPhone and you don't provide iPhone with Dynamic Island (large) screenshots. In practice, if you upload the larger Dynamic Island set, you can leave the 6.5" slot empty.

iPhone Duo

iPhone Duo has two slots, one per display: iPhone Duo (outer display) at 1398 × 2034 and iPhone Duo (inner display) at 2007 × 2853 in portrait. Optional today. Required from April 2027 for apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. Uploading them also adds an "optimized for iPhone Duo" badge. There is a full walk through in the iPhone Duo screenshots guide.

iPad screenshot sizes

For iPad, the 13" slot is the one that matters. Required if your app runs on iPad. The smaller iPad slots are optional and fall back to a larger size when empty.

Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro

These slots only apply if your app ships on that platform. Required for Mac apps. 16:10 only. Required for Apple Watch apps. Use the same size in every localization. Required for Apple TV apps. Required for Apple Vision Pro apps.

SlotPortraitLandscapeStatus

For Apple Watch, each accepted size matches a group of models: 422 × 514 for Ultra 4, Ultra 3; 410 × 502 for Ultra 2, Ultra; 416 × 496 for Series 12, 11, 10; 396 × 484 for Series 9, 8, 7; 368 × 448 for Series 6, 5, 4, SE 3, SE 2, SE; 312 × 390 for Series 3, 2, 1.

Required vs optional, slot by slot

Here is how each status works in App Store Connect:

  • Required: needed for every iPhone app. Today that is only iPhone with Dynamic Island, medium (6.1" / 6.3").
  • Required for that device: needed only when your app supports that device or platform, such as iPhone with Face ID, large (6.5"), iPad 13", Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, Apple Watch.
  • Optional: you can upload your own, or leave it empty and let App Store Connect fill it in.

What happens if you skip a size

App Store Connect scales the highest required size down when you don't upload smaller sizes. Each optional slot has a specific size it borrows from:

So one good set at the main iPhone size, plus one at iPad 13" if you support iPad, covers the whole iPhone and iPad range. You might still upload a smaller size yourself when text would get too small after scaling, or when your layout really differs on smaller phones.

iPhone Duo is different. Its slots have no fallback listed, so if you skip them there is simply no Duo set, and no Duo badge.

App previews

App previews are short videos that sit alongside your screenshots. They have their own sizes, separate from screenshots:

  • iPhone app preview (6.1" / 6.3", 6.5", 6.9", 5.8"): 886 × 1920, 1920 × 886
  • iPhone Duo app preview: 886 × 1920, 1920 × 886
  • iPad app preview (13", 11", 10.5"): 1200 × 1600, 1600 × 1200
  • iPad 12.9" (2nd gen) app preview: 1200 × 1600, 900 × 1200, 1600 × 1200, 1200 × 900
  • Apple TV app preview: 1920 × 1080
  • Apple Vision Pro app preview: 3840 × 2160

A sensible plan for most apps

  1. Design your set once at iPhone with Dynamic Island, medium (6.1" / 6.3"). If you want the large slot filled too, export a second copy at 1260 × 2736 or another large size.
  2. If you support iPad, rework the layout for the wider canvas rather than stretching the iPhone version, and export at iPad 13".
  3. Add iPhone Duo screens when you are ready, since they become required from April 2027 for apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later.
  4. Check every file with the validator before you upload.

If you want a head start on the design, the template gallery has layouts for iPhone, iPad and Android, and the 3D mockups page shows the devices you can place your screenshots on. For the craft side, read how to make App Store screenshots and what to put on your first three screenshots.
